We were recently retained by a young man who had been charged and arrested for distributing molly on the boardwalk of a popular Jersey Shore destination in Ocean County. Officers arrested our client and a co-defendant after allegedly witnessing them exchange pills for money. Our client, a resident of Philadelphia, was incarcerated in Ocean County Jail. Once retained, we contacted Ocean County Superior Court and scheduled an immediate Bail Reduction Hearing. During that hearing, we were able to offer compelling factors to the Superior Court judge presiding over the case and were successful in getting the bail reduced.
In the following months, it became evident that the police improperly tested the alleged “molly” being sold by our clients, and that the substance was not, in fact, a narcotic after all. At that point, the case was remanded to municipal court and we resolved the matter with the municipal prosecutor to a downgraded municipal ordinance violation.
