A man from Little Egg Harbor, New Jersey is facing a multitude of criminal charges including burglary, criminal trespass, and eluding after a car chase with Hazlet police. After investigators identified him as responsible for several burglaries in the Jersey Shore area, he reportedly attempted to elude police in a stolen vehicle that he ultimately crashed into an above ground pool.

The defendant in this case, 27-year-old Little Egg Harbor resident Christopher Kingsbury, was first identified as a suspect in a series of burglaries in Hazlet, NJ. He is accused of breaking into a house on Sixth Street in Hazlet and stealing a car on Friday. A few hours later, police attempted to pull over a suspicious vehicle occupied by Kingsbury. He reportedly fled, colliding with three other vehicles, including a police car.

Police say Kingsbury continued his attempt to elude them, ultimately crashing into an above ground pool in a local backyard and proceeding to flee on foot. After over 2 hours of searching by police officers from several departments and the K9 Unit, Kingsbury was arrested in the vicinity of the hotel where he was staying.

Now, he is facing numerous criminal charges, including 10 counts of burglary. The charges in his potential indictment also include: auto theft, receiving stolen propertytrespassing, theft of moveable property, aggravated assault on a police officer, eluding, hindering apprehension, resisting arrest, as well as a weapons offense and several traffic violations.

As one might expect, Kingsbury is exposed to severe penalties if convicted on just a few of these criminal charges. For example, eluding is graded as a second degree crime in New Jersey when the offense creates a risk of death or injury to any person. In other words, if a person attempts to elude a police officer who signals them to stop while driving a motor vehicle and in the course of this flight they endanger others, this is a second degree felony in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:29-2b. A single conviction for a second degree crime exposes a defendant to up to 10 years in NJ State Prison.
